A little workflow

This probably isn't too in-depth, but here is a brief overview of how I handled the textures.

First I would grab a few nice source images like the ones below:
(these are from cgtextures)

After selecting my source images I would then cut bits and pieces from them and arrange it all into my texture. Burning and Dodging was done do get things looking the way I wanted. I also used the sponge tool to pull some of the color out for the next step.

The final step would be to blend this nice marble image over the top of the texture to give it color. I did this to every texture to keep things consistent. The blending mode used was linear burn at around 30-50% opacity depending on the image I was blending it into.

Update

Here are some shots of the level at its current state. I will be presenting this for my class on thursday. I am pretty satisfied with my progress so far, but I want to work on it more.

Update

Ok so this post is a little overdue, but the project is done as far as the class goes. I still plan on working on it so I can make it really nice. Below are the rest of the textures I have made. Don't mind some of the blank UV space. I still plan on combining a few maps together to make better use of space. More details in the next post.

Update

Nothing too special happening. Just working on textures. I ended up finding a few small issues with some of my meshes when I did a test import. There were some surfaces that were doubled up and stuff causing things to look odd, amongst other things, but overall nothing too huge. Anyways, 90% of my work left in this project is on textures. I am chopping away at them even as I type this post (really).
Here are a few new ones:

Update

So far everything is unwrapped, and I have a few textures made up. I still have a good amount of texturing to do, but I am expecting to at least be done with the diffuse textures for everything by the end of the week. Other supporting maps will follow those. The shot below should give you a rough idea of what stuff looks like. It's a little bit different than the original idea for the textures.
Textures are made using resources from cgtextures.com.

As far as constructing the textures I basically just took bit and pieces from photos and mixed them together. I then would use the sponge tool to desaturate stuff a bit, and use tools like burn, dodge, healing brush, paintbrush + layer blend modes, brightness/contrast, etc to get things looking how I wanted. Finally I blended a picture of some green/yellow marble over everything to keep things consistent. I will make another post showing how I created one of the textures from beginning to end in an effort to keep things organized.
Here are a few to look at:

Update

By monday night I managed to get the modeling done. There are a few shots below. There are still some things that I would like to add in, I think, but I am not going to worry about them right now. I have started on a few textures but I haven't completely finished any of them. I have also tossed quite a few of them out after deciding to approch the whole texture thing from a different angle. Texture post coming soon.
